2016 Federal Income Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency 

A number of tax credits for residential energy efficiency have been renewed and  are available for purchases made in 2016, as well as retroactive purchases made in 2015. ENERGY STAR products eligible for tax credits are independently certified to save energy, save money and protect the environment. A sample of the tax credits available.

Utility Rebates— Changes Begin September 1, 2015

AC Program

  • 14 SEER units no longer qualify for rebates. 
  • 14.5 SEER is the new minimum. 
  • 15 SEER and 16 SEER rebates remain the same. 
  • 17 SEER / 13 EER units will be rebated $650 for new equipment and $500 for a trade-in.

HEATING

  • Natural gas boilers will no longer qualify for rebates. 
  • Furnace and ECM rebates remain in place.

INSULATION AND AIR SEALING

  • Air sealing, attic, and wall insulation materials and labor will now be rebated at 30%, up to $500.
